SpyLoan Apps Exposed: Google Removes 17 Predatory Loan Apps Targeting Indian Users
In a shocking revelation, Google has removed 17 apps from the Play Store that were designed to exploit unsuspecting users in India with predatory loan schemes and data harvesting. These apps, dubbed “SpyLoan” apps by cybersecurity researchers, not only tricked users into downloading them but also granted them access to sensitive personal information, leading to blackmail and harassment.
Google Cracks Down on Predatory Apps: 17 SpyLoan Apps Removed from Play Store
The research, conducted by ESET, revealed that these apps were operational in over 10 countries, including India, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, Indonesia, Colombia, Egypt, Kenya, Peru, the Philippines, Singapore, and Nigeria. Worryingly, over 12 million users had downloaded these apps before Google took action.
